Know the best time for going solar?

spring months have more sunlight

The Spring season is the best time to go solar.

As it is marked by clear weather, good sunlight, and less humidity in the atmosphere.

(*The water in the atmosphere blocks the sunlight reaching the surface of the Earth; More Humidity, more water in the air).

Hemisphere

The spring months are not the same around the world but are different in 2-hemispheres.

(*Hemisphere is half of the Earth. The upper half is called the northern hemisphere and the lower half is the southern hemisphere).

The spring months for the countries in the Northern Hemisphere are March, April, and May;

while

for the southern hemisphere countries, these are September, October, and November.

These months offer the ideal conditions for the solar power systems to perform at their peak.

This is the right time for the homeowners, who actually want to install the solar roof at their residences.

And want to enjoy the benefits of their solar PV systems in the summers.

The solar PV system when installed in this season, offers the following advantages to the home-owners:

More sunshine than the remaining seasons

Spring is the time that is associated with the good solar insolation, long sun hours, and a very low amount of humidity.

The solar PV system performs very effectively in this time period as you can enjoy more solar power.

The long sun hours make solar panels produce power for longer hours in a day.

This season offers a favorable operating temperature to the solar system.

The average temperature during this season is around 25°C which makes solar panels produce their maximum rated power.

You can in the chart above that the average temperature in the month of March and April are around 25°C (March being closer than other months).

Although, the average temperature in May is higher than the required temperature of 25°C for solar panels to perform effectively.

This affects the efficiency of the panels.

But the month of May is also associated with low humidity (you will see in the chart below).

That compensates for low efficiency due to the temperature increase.

In the spring season, the moisture content or the relative humidity in the atmosphere is very low.

Therefore, your panels receive sunlight with full intensity.

Guys,

you can see in the chart above that May witnesses the lowest amount of relative humidity after April.

This is a very good time for solar power installation.

(Humidity lowers the performance of the solar panels by reducing the intensity of the sunlight falling on their surface).

You are preparing behorehand for summers

The pre-and post-installation of a solar PV system is a time-consuming process.

As you need to monitor its performance regularly.

And any reduction in the output power must be reported to the installer.

So that corrective measures can be taken in time.

If you start this process well before summer then you get a sufficient amount of time to monitor and address all the output-related issues to the installer.

So, by the time the summer season arrives, when there is high demand, your solar PV system is fully functional and is ready to offer you smooth and free solar electricity.

Solar companies get busy in summers

As the summer season arrives, the demand for electricity increases and so is the demand for solar PV systems.

The service turnaround time of the solar installers gets increased.

They are servicing more clients in the same time slot as compared to when they were servicing during the spring season.

The installation time can get extended.

The quality of service can be affected and there will be delays in attending the service request.

Or other system-related queries because of their busy schedule.

It could be possible that you might not enjoy the real benefit of solar power in the summer season.

Extra solar units can be fed to the grid

During the spring season, the weather is pleasant therefore, you do not require air conditioners or coolers to cool your home.

But your solar PV system is performing at its fullest and is generating more units than the rest of the other seasons.

These extra or unused units can be fed into the grid supply through Net metering.

You get credit for those extra units that are reflected in your electricity bill.

And that can be utilized during summers when demand for electricity rises.

So, springtime actually helps in generating more units, saving your electricity bill and hence creating an extra cushion for summers.

Conclusion

The Spring season gives a little extra advantage to solar enthusiasts over other months of the year.

But

If someone asks me this question again

I would happily say, “anytime is the right time to go for Solar”:)

I have reasons to justify this:

Solar electricity is very much financially feasible. and is cheaper than grid electricity in most countries of the world.

Any delay in installing the system means paying more to the grid.

And losing the opportunity to enjoy smooth and free solar electricity.

And above all,

By installing a solar power system now, you are reducing carbon footprints and contributing to preserving the environment.

What is the rule of thumb?

If you are planning to install the solar power system on your rooftop but the spring season has just passed.

Don’t be in a dilemma

In this case, don’t wait for next spring to arrive as it will be another 12-months wait.

Install the system NOW!

If the spring season is around the corner then waiting for it for a solar installation could be the right decision.

I’m updating this post in the month of September.

Wow!

It’s spring season in the southern hemisphere; the perfect time to go for solar installation.

I appeal to all my friends from countries in the southern hemisphere,

“Go and realize the solar potential in the spring season”

You get enough time to monitor the performance of your solar system and your queries are attended to in a short time.

It is the best way to beat the summers and avail the benefit of solar at your home.

An experienced and good solar panel installing company can guide you on how to start the process.

So, friends go ahead and get it installed as it will be a win-win situation both for you and the solar company.
